Established in 1910 as an orphanage, TS Rahman has grown into a prominent institution for training Indian Merchant Navy officers in South Asia. In 1972, Chairman Mr. A. Rashid Yusuf renamed it “Training Ship Rahman” in honor of his father, Mr. Abdul Rahman, who served as the institution’s first President. Committed to maintaining maritime standards, TS Rahman diligently prepares its students to meet the rigorous competency standards outlined in the STCW Code 1995.

Eligibility Criteria
General Purpose Rating Training Course Eligibility Criteria
Category | Requirements |
A) Educational | 1) Passed 10th grade from a government-recognized board with English, Mathematics, and Science subjects and a 40% overall. |
2) English should have been passed with a minimum of 40% marks as a subject, either in 10th or 12th standard. | |
3) Pass a 2-year ITI course approved by DVET; with a minimum of 40% aggregate marks in the final year of ITI & minimum of 40% in English in 10th / 12th. | |
B) Age | Minimum age: 18 yearsMaximum age:25 years The reference date for calculating age will be the start date of the Academic Session. |
Diploma Nautical Science Course Eligibility Criteria

A) Educational | 1) Passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognized Board with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks in PCM. |
2) English should have been passed with a minimum of 50% marks as a subject, either in 10th or 12th standard. | |

BSc Nautical Science Course Eligibility Criteria

Graduate Marine Engineering Course Eligibility Criteria

A) Educational | 1) A candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Mechanical & Automation, or Naval Architecture Engineering after completing a four-year program at a UGC-recognized university or an AICTE-approved institution, with a minimum final-year mark of 50%. |
2) English should have been passed with a minimum of 50% marks as a subject, either in 10th or 12th standard or in the degree examination. | |

Medical Eligibility Criteria
Physical Standards | 1) Candidates should be physically fit for sea service under the standard norm, with eyesight up to 6/6 in the better eye and 6/9 in the worst eye. |
2) The D.G. Shipping Medical Certificate must be issued by D.G. Shipping Approved Doctors, under the specified medical examination requirements. |
Fees Structure of Training Ship Rahman
Fees should be paid via demand draft or pay order made out to “Sir Mohamed Yusuf Seamen Welfare Foundation” and payable in Mumbai, according to the following schedule:

Registration Process
How To Apply in TS Rahman?
- Candidates can apply directly to Training Ship without Company Sponsorship in response to advertisements in Newspapers/Magazines.
- They can begin preparing for sponsorship with a free course of IMU CET and SPONSORSHIP with us.
- All applicants must complete the application form on the TS RAHMAN ADMISSION PORTAL website.
- Along with the application form, candidates need to submit copies of their Xth standard mark sheet and School Leaving Certificate.
- The Training Ship staff will review the applications and notify candidates of the date for an Entrance Test followed by an interview.
- Successful candidates will receive guidance on joining formalities.
